TU-E-TRACK 1-0 (Tuesday, 7/27/2021) 3:30 PM - 4:30 PM [Eastern Time (GMT-4)]

Medical Physics is a Physics specialty with documented inequities with regards to gender and race. Currently, data is being collected to better understand the proportion of underrepresented scientists in the field and their experiences in the workplace and within the AAPM. To that end, the AAPM has created the Ad Hoc Committee on Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (AHCDI) to address equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) goals and to make recommendations to improve the experience of diverse members in the AAPM. This session will explain what EDI is, will discuss the EDI goals of AAPM, and will highlight the achievements and data collection and metrics organized by AHCDI, the AAPM Diversity and Inclusion subcommittee (WMRSC) and the Women’s Professional Subcommittee (WPSC). It is important for AAPM members to understand the purpose of the data collected in the 2021 AAPM EDI Climate Survey and through other means as baseline data, and the benefit of tracking EDI metrics for our membership. This workshop will establish a sense of transparency regarding AAPM EDI goals and provide opportunity for feedback from membership to leadership, AHCDI, WMRSC and WPSC, in order to further improve AAPM EDI efforts.

Learning Objectives:

1. Define EDI terms
2. List current and upcoming EDI efforts
3. Describe recently collected EDI data
4. Provide feedback to leadership and involved committees related to EDI efforts
