Application for Full Membership

Criteria

Full

  • You must have earned a graduate degree in the physical or biological sciences, computer sciences, mathematical sciences, or engineering.
  • Your degree must be from a college or university accredited by one of the organizations recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation, or an equivalent foreign degree.
  • You must be professionally active in applying physics to medicine and biology.
  • You must agree to abide by the AAPM Code of Ethics.
  • You should have an interest in the objectives of AAPM, which include promoting the application of physics to medicine and biology, encouraging interest and training in medical physics and related fields, and disseminating technical information in these areas.

Full-Lifetime Category

AAPM is pleased to offer Full members a Full-Lifetime option once they meet the qualifications below.

  • You must meet the rule of 90: the sum of your age and the number of years that you were a Full Member must be ≥ 90.
  • You must be 62 years of age or older. 
  • You must no longer be working full time in the profession.
  • If you are 67 or older and meet the rule of 90, we will automatically move you to Full-Lifetime at renewal time (regardless of your employment status).

Process

Full

  1. Download the following documents:
  2. Send the completed Application Form to membership@aapm.org. Please complete all applications in English.
  3. Forward the Letter of Support Form to a current Full Member in good standing who knows you personally. Ask them to complete the form and send it to membership@aapm.org. You can verify that the individual completing your support form is a Full Member here.
  4. Upon receiving your application, we'll create an account for you if one doesn't already exist and send you an invoice for a non-refundable $50 application fee. We accept Visa, MasterCard, and American Express. If you'd like to pay by check or International Postal Money Order, print the invoice and mail it along with the payment to:

  5. Ensure we receive both your Letter of Support and the application fee within 30 days of submitting your Application Form. Otherwise, your application will be automatically withdrawn.
  6. After receiving your application, Letter of Support, and application fee, we'll forward everything to the AAPM Membership Committee for review. This may take up to 30 days.
  7. During the review period, you may attend one AAPM meeting (Spring Clinical, Annual Meeting, or Summer School) at member rates.
  8. We'll notify you via email about the Committee’s decision. If approved, you'll be invoiced for dues. Dues for new members are pro-rated on a quarterly basis.

Full-Lifetime Category

Changing Membership Class?

  • Application fees are waived for current members wishing to change member classes.
  • Changes to membership class become effective at next renewal.
  • The criteria for Full Membership listed above still applies.
