While mammography and tomosynthesis remain the mainstream for breast x-ray imaging, newer technologies are helping to fine-tune diagnosis and are playing an increasing role in follow-up studies and the early detection of cancer.
In this session, four speakers will describe and review recent technological advances in breast x-ray imaging, including dedicated breast CT, contrast enhanced spectral mammography, localization and biopsy via tomosynthesis/stereotactic guidance, and tissue texture analysis of breast x-ray images which showed correlation with breast density and cancer detection performance. The speakers will describe the clinical background, review the status quo and clinical adoption of current technologies, and report active investigations and ongoing/future directions of research in these topics.

(1) Understand the physics and principles behind contrast enhanced spectral mammography, stereotactic and tomosynthesis-based localization, breast CT, and tissue texture analysis.
(2) Understand the clinical applications as well as current trend of investigations of the described emerging breast x-ray imaging technologies.
