The Ethics Case Study Working Group will present a case study concerning conflict of interest in a professional medical physics environment. Specifically, the case study focuses on a young physicist whose medical physics practice was recently acquired by a larger firm that also has an equipment manufacturing arm. The case study explores the ethical concerns of purchasing equipment when one potential vendor is financially linked to the purchaser. After a brief introduction to the AAPM Code of Ethics, presenters will describe the case study and participants will break into smaller discussion groups led by working group members to navigate through the ethical decision making process and discuss potential consequences of their decision. Smaller groups will rejoin the larger group for open discussion and potential guidance from the work group concerning the AAPM Code of Ethics. Learning objectives for this session include:
1. To become familiar with the AAPM code of Ethics, specifically the sections relating to conflict of interest
2. To identify the key issues in a case scenario as applies to the AAPM code of Ethics
3. To facilitate the discussion of theories and ideas regarding the case study scenarios and extract meaning from the scenario presented
