WELCOME

Rapid developments in imaging and radiation delivery technology have fueled the application of small photon beams in stereotactic radiation therapy. Despite substantial clinical successes, the increased use of small fields and hypofractionation in Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS) and Stereotactic Body Radiotherapy (SBRT) has raised questions about radiobiology and small field physics.

This 4.5-day School will provide an overview of the rationale and physics behind small field dosimetry (IAEA-AAPM TRS-483, AAPM TG-155), treatment planning, image guidance, quality assurance, radiobiology and clinical considerations (HyTEC, ICRU-91). Participants will gain an in-depth knowledge of the implementation of SRS and SBRT treatments for various disease sites in the clinic. The program includes both lectures and guided hands-on practice using real clinical measurement scenarios at UT Southwestern Medical Center.

This Summer School is being led by Co-Program Directors:

Jan Seuntjens, PhD, FCCPM, FAAPM - UHN Princess Margaret Cancer Centre & Univ. of Toronto

M. Saiful Huq, PhD, FAAPM, FInstP - Univ. of Pittsburgh School of Medicine & UPMC Hillman Cancer Center

On behalf of the Co-Program Directors and the Summer School Subcommittee, AAPM would like to extend our thanks and appreciation to Dr. Steve Jiang, Vice Chair and Chief of the Division of Medical Physics & Engineering at UT Southwestern Medical Center, for his department's assistance in organizing the Hands-On Workshop portion of this program.
