Radiation safety is a crucial pillar of medical physics and thus it is important to revisit and reevaluate this topic on a continual basis to prevent complacency. The goal of this session is to present an updated review on available resources from SDAMPP, AAPM, ASTRO, RSNA, ABS, RO-ILS etc. for radiation safety principles, as well as best practices for training and ongoing education. With constantly emerging technology in our field and the increasing presence of artificial intelligence and automation, there are new opportunities and challenges to be aware of in regards to achieving the highest level of safety. The role of medical physicist’s in safeguarding radiotherapy clinical practice is also dynamic and ever-expanding. Thus, current trends and efforts among these new responsibilities will be reviewed and discussed. The information will be divided and presented within three separate categories of radiotherapy: photons, protons and brachytherapy.

Learning Objectives:
1.To review available resources for radiation safety training and ongoing education from SDAMPP, AAPM, ASTRO, RSNA, ABS, RO-ILS etc.
2.To have an overview of radiation safety principles and considerations in external beam radiotherapy, brachytherapy, and proton therapy.
3.To discuss the opportunities and challenges of radiation safety in the face of evolving technologies and artificial intelligence.
