Currently, image-guided breast biopsy procedures can be performed utilizing digital mammography, digital breast tomosynthesis, and magnetic resonance imaging. This two-part session will focus on unique physicist perspectives related to image-guided breast biopsy. The first presentation will review the 1999 ACR Stereotactic Breast Biopsy Accreditation QC Manual requirements, in addition to the specific vendor tests required for currently available breast biopsy devices. The second portion of this session will focus on safety considerations in breast MRI and MR-guided breast biopsy procedures. The risk/benefit analysis for clinical decision making and MR-guided breast biopsy safety workflow will also be discussed.

Learning Objectives:
1) Review the requirements of the 1999 ACR Stereotactic Breast Biopsy QC Manual.
2) Understand the QC requirements specific to each vendor for the following breast biopsy devices: GE- Pristina Serena, Hologic- Affirm Upright Breast Biopsy Guidance System, Siemens- MAMMOMAT Revelation Biopsy Device, and Fuji- ASPIRE Stereotactic Biopsy System.
3) Review MRI safety topics including implanted devices and tissue expander safety, SAR constraints, and RF warming and burn protection.
4) Discuss image quality considerations as they relate to breast-related implanted devices in MRI.
