There are many forces today that play a role in shaping the modern practice of diagnostic physics. Historically, the AAPM’s efforts to model the diagnostic physics workforce have encountered a number of challenges. AAPM’s Diagnostic Workforce Subcommittee (DWS) and its Diagnostic Demand and Supply Projection Working Group (DDSPWG) have made major strides in recent years toward capturing how the workforce currently exists and modeling how we expect it to evolve in the coming years. The first hour of this session will summarize the surveys performed by the DWS and the modeling manuscript prepared by the DDSPWG. The second hour of the session, will include a roundtable discussion with members of various academic medical physics practices. Conversation will center on the scope of each institution’s physics practice and how their staffing and assignments address their needs.

2. Learn how the scope of a physics group’s practice impacts staffing and group size
3. See examples of how the workload associated with clinical, teaching, research, and volunteer responsibilities are divided among group members

5. Learn how staffing and workload responsibilities have evolved as healthcare systems change
