Room 201
This session will cover a range of current topics of QA/QC in diagnostic ultrasound as well as ultrasound guidance in prostate brachytherapy. ACR ultrasound accreditation QC requirements will be presented, outlining the steps and pitfalls of ACR-required ultrasound system tests. These include image uniformity and artifact surveys, geometric accuracy, system sensitivity, and display monitor evaluations. QC phantoms will be described for testing general-purpose ultrasound scanners. This talk will be followed by an overview of Doppler ultrasound applications and Doppler QC testing using flow phantoms. Also, initiatives to standardize ultrasound elastography measurements and quantitative ultrasound measurements, by the Quantitative Imaging Biomarkers Alliance (QIBA) and the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM), will be introduced. In addition, QA/QC tests for prostate brachytherapy ultrasound systems will be presented. Lastly, innovative software programs for automated ultrasound QC will be featured.
The targeted attendees are medical physicists and other medical professionals in diagnostic imaging and radiation oncology with an interest in ultrasound imaging and ultrasound guidance.
Learning Objectives:
1. To gain familiarity with common elements of a QA/QC program for diagnostic ultrasound scanners. In addition, advanced QC tools, phantoms, and automated software programs will be described.
2. To provide an overview of important phantom characteristics for evaluating Doppler ultrasound equipment and to outline Doppler system tests that can be performed using flow phantoms.
3. To introduce the AIUM/QIBA efforts in assessing shear wave elastography and the emerging pulse-echo quantitative ultrasound features.
4. To know QA/QC tests for prostate brachytherapy ultrasound systems.
