Ballroom A
This educational session will include an outline of the organization goals of the Imaging and Radiation Oncology Core (IROC) service group in support of the National Clinical Trials Network (NCTN) and the National Cancer Institute (NCI).
IROC principle investigators and staff provide clinical trial leadership and a number of quality assurance services. Medical Physicists attending this session will learn about IROC’s integration work to provide efficient and uniform processes for clinical sites participating in clinical trials. They will also learn the infrastructure of the different IROC service centers as well as the specific services offered including trial design support, site qualification, credentialing, data management and case reviews.
The speakers for this session will provide an overview of the research projects and initiatives to further modernize clinical trial management including dosimetry audits for new and evolving treatment techniques and modalities, conducting real-time adaptive imaging in clinical trials, conducting interventional reviews to provide feedback to clinical sites and prevent potential protocol deviations, using radiation therapy and image analytic software platforms to evaluate data, providing guidance for TRIAD data submission and collection, actively participating in DICOM standard groups and more. Over the years, the IROC service group has greatly expanded its work to provide integrated radiation and imaging quality control programs. This session is a timely update for Medical Physicists also working in support of clinical trials at their institutions.
Learning Objectives
1. Provide an overview of IROC ‘s work to support NCI’s NCTN Program.
2. Describe IROC projects, research initiatives, and integration work.
3. Identify the IROC activities and services that physicists will encounter in their support of clinical research.
