Medical Physics Practice Guidline 14.a (MPPG 14.a) is a practice guideline from AAPM on Yttrium-90 (90Y) microsphere treatments for hepatic tumors. It is the first guidance document on this topic since the publication of TG-144 in 2011. The MPPG report, which is expected to be published later this year, aims to establish minimum practice standards for safety and efficacy in 90Y treatment. Yttrium-90 microsphere treatment is an interdisciplinary practice supported by physicists with backgrounds in different sub-specialties. The document serves as an introduction to the specifics of the procedure for those who are unfamiliar with the modality.
This session introduces the recommendations and requirements for establishing a comprehensive, safe, and efficient 90Y program. Presentations will cover the specifics of 90Y dosimetry, regulatory issues, safety considerations, and clinical experience in implementing the guidelines of MPPG 14.a.
Learning Objectives:
1) Understand the recommendations and requirements of MPPG 14.a in various 90Y treatment environments
2) Understand the basics of 90Y dosimetry and how it differs from other radiopharmaceutical therapies
3) Understand regulatory requirements and safety issues associated with 90Y microspheres
