Purpose: To evaluate the overall functionality of newly released Varian Identify system version 2.3.
Methods: Three techniques included in Varian Identify system were evaluated: patient biometric authentication, patient specific treatment accessory device identification, and surface guidance for radiation therapy. Patient biometric authentication uses a palm vein reader. Patient specific treatment accessory device verification was evaluated on two techniques: existence via RFID and position via optical markers. Surface guidance was evaluated on both patient orthopedic head-to-toe setup at loading position and surface matching and tracking at treatment isocenter. A phantom evaluation of the consistency and accuracy for Identify SGRT was also performed, including a system consistency test, a translational shift accuracy test, a rotational accuracy test, a pitch and roll accuracy test, a continuous recording test, and a SGRT vs CBCT agreement test. All tests were using a Modus Penta-guide phantom.
Results: Over 50-patient authentications were verified successfully using the palm reader. All index-able devices tagged with RFID and optical markers were able to be verified on both existence and their position on the treatment table. The patient real-time orthopedic pose can be adjusted to match the reference surface taken at the simulation to reduce the adjustment at isocenter. SGRT-reported shift consistency was within 0.1mm translation and 0.03° rotation. The translational shift accuracy was within 0.3mm, and the rotational accuracy was within 0.1°. In the continuous recording, the maximum variation was 0.2mm, 0.03°, and the STD was within 0.12mm, 0.02°. The difference between Identify SGRT offset and CBCT was within 1mm and 1°.
Conclusion: This initial evaluation showed that Identify version 2.3 accurately functions for patient palm identification and patient specific treatment device existence and position verification. Overall SGRT consistency and accuracy is within 1mm and 1°, which is less than the 2mm criteria in TG147.
