Purpose: Use of inappropriate detectors have led to multiple misadministration in SRS treatment delivery and have become newspapers headlines in the past. End-to-End testing of any SRS program is extremely crucial. In this project PTW-CC01, Edge-Detectors have been used to validate commissioning data. Role and adequacy of NanoDots ,SRS MapCheck have been investigated for End-to-End testing of SRS cones planning system.
Methods: Although Varian Cone planning system is very simple and does not require lot of the data to commission, however, selection of detectors and precision of data acquisition is extremely important. SRS high dose treatment delivery with cones dictate special measures to validate commissioning data and perform extensive End-to-End testing prior to its clinical use. Edge detector, and PTW CC01 were used to validate commissioning data in solid water phantom. Static absolute dose was measured with NanoDots and ion chambers for SRS cones. SRS MapCheck with Sterio phan was utilized to measure absolute dose for static fields and Arcs, results are compared with obtained values from planning system.Physical dimensions of NanoDots are 1 x 1 x 0.2 cm3 with active ingredients Al2O3:C is 5.0 mm in diameter and 0.2 mm thick that is bigger than smallest cone 4.0mm and requires special measures to make NanoDots compatible for small fields like 4.0mm.
Results: After extensive review and validation, the beam model for stereotactic cones were commissioned for clinical use. NanoDots calculated static absolute dose at 2.0cm in custom designed solid water phantom showed good agreement for cones up to 7.5mm special measures can make NanoDots compatible for smaller cones as well.
Conclusion: SRS ManpCheck showed a good agreement between measured and calculated absolute doses for all SRS cones for both static and arc fields with 2.0mm, 2.0% and is a great tool for End-to-End testing of Stereotactic radiosurgery cones (SRS).
