Medical Physics is a global enterprise. Global activities abound in many domains, including: (a) research, where “big data”, “artificial intelligence”, “machine learning”, and “automation” are increasingly dependent on global interactions and collaborations; (b) education, where international graduate students are on an increase and the need for education and clinical training support for low-to-middle income countries (LMICs) are increasingly recognized; (c) industry, where the development and implementation of new technologies evolve through collaborative consortia and medical physics partners, and also collaborative clinical training programs which are on an increase especially for LMICs; and (d) outreach, in support of the global rapid growth in the incidence of cancer and heart disease and the corresponding demand for additional medical physicists, especially in LMICs – a demand that is in need of significant education and training support.

This symposium will address how medical physicists can best be involved in providing support, collaboration, and partnerships at the global level. The pros and cons of various approaches will be addressed and recommendations for best approaches will be reviewed. It will provide guidance to the AAPM members who wish to volunteer for global projects.

Learning Objectives:
1. To increase the awareness of the global variations and needs of medical physics.
2. To expose participants to the realities and challenges facing medical physicists in a global context.
3. To provide a framework for participants to approach global medical physics challenges.
