Purpose: The Fast Dose Calculator (FDC), a GPU-based track-repeating Monte Carlo algorithm, was validated for clinical proton therapy at both MD Anderson Proton Therapy Center and Shanghai Proton and Heavy Ion Center. The goal of this work is to also implement this algorithm at the MD Anderson Proton Therapy Center II.

Methods: The primary task for the dose engine implementation is to model the beam according to commissioning data, which includes integral depth dose (IDD) and lateral dose profiles at five different longitudinal positions. Two sets of commissioning data were available: one for beams without ripple filter and the other for beams with ripple filter. The lateral plane we selected for the beam modelling is in the middle of the two scanning magnets, which corresponds to 163.75 cm upstream of the isocenter. All materials downstream of this plane to the exit of the snout were included in the beam model. With six parameters, we described the proton energy, location, and direction distributions on that plane. Gamma index analysis was applied to test the agreement between FDC simulations and commissioning data. The criterion used in this project was 1%/1mm.

Results: The passing rate for the IDD comparison between FDC simulations and commissioning data is above 99.0%. And the passing rate for the lateral profile comparison at isocenter is above 99.0 %.

Conclusion: The Fast Dose Calculator has been commissioned for the MD Anderson Proton Therapy Center II.
